How we began:
Over 35 years ago Karen Jacobsen, the founder of DataScreening started Credit Resources, Inc., CRI, a credit reporting agency, after leaving a well-known national credit reporting agency. Understanding the true needs of the credit industry, she took advantage of the modern technology at the time and was the first credit reporting agency in the New York Metropolitan area to automate the process. CRI was able to provide companies their credit information in hours, as opposed to days. With her insight and leadership the business quadrupled in 6 months, grew to over 40 employees and expanded to all over the country.
CRI had a large footprint in the banking industry, so when the banks were required by the FDIC to start doing background checks, they came to CRI for help. Karen and her team took the same approach, researching and finding the best resources and developing the best technology to improve her clients’ process. Soon after, DataScreening was launched. Twenty two years later the company has had double digit growth every year since, and has expanded to one of the leading background check providers in the industry. As upgrades and updates have taken place, DataScreening’s current background check platform is the top screening software in the industry; giving clients the most comprehensive suite of customizable screening applications available.

Karen Jacobsen/CEO
Karen is an expert in the area of background screening as well as credit reporting, having worked in the industry for over three decades. Karen started her career at Equifax and was a top producer for 10 years. Afterwards, she started Credit Resources Inc., a credit reporting agency that was clearly focused on being a client centered culture and having the most and advanced technology. As Credit Resources grew, clients asked for more. Karen then started DataScreening background checks to accommodate her clients’ requests. Since then, she has continued to lead the company producing double digit growth every year. Karen co-founded the National Credit Reporting Association and served as President, Board member and ex-officio for 10 years.
DataScreening is a nationally certified WBE with WBENC; Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. Karen served on the certification committee of this organization for 10 years. Karen is also a member of ASA; American Staffing Association as well as the NJSA; New Jersey Staffing Alliance, which she has served on the board for 2 years. Karen is a member of PBSA; Professional Background Screening Association, SHRM; Society of Human Resources Management and has been a speaker for the Garden State SHRM Conference, Morris County SHRM, New Jersey Bankers Association, New Jersey Staffing Alliance, the National Credit Association and CIANJ; Commerce and Industry Association of NJ.
Kimberly Slezak/President
Kimberly oversees all operations for DataScreening. Kimberly has extensive knowledge in the credit reporting field, beginning her career as a top sales representative with Credit Resources Inc. and then later with LandAmerica Credit Services. Her experience in background checks and credit reporting spans for more than 15 years, and she continues to consult in the area of credit reporting and background screening.
Kimberly has served as an Executive Board member of the North Jersey Chamber of Commerce and is a scholarship recipient of the MBA program at Tuck University/Dartmouth. Kimberly is a member of PBSA; Professional Background Screening Association, ASA; American Staffing Association, and SHRM; Society of Human Resources Management. She is FCRA Certificed through the PBSA and holds a BA in Communications with a minor in Fine Art from Seton Hall University.
Fred Amicucci/Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Fred started out as a Sales Advisor with DataScreening and is currently responsible for maximizing the efficacy of all revenue fuctions at DataScreening. Fred spent over 12 years as a sales consultant for a leading provider of telecom equipment of over 75 brands and systems. During this time, he later took on a managerial role, designing and developing sales strategies for product implementations for enterprise level clients and to oversee the sales department for the company.
Fred is a member of PBSA; Professional Background Screening Association, ASA; American Staffing Association, NJSA; New Jersey Staffing Alliance, as well as currently serving on the Board of Directors for NJSA for 2 years. Fred is also FCRA advanced certified (Fair Credit Reporting Act) through the PBSA. He is also a member of SHRM, Society of Human Resource Management, and has spoken for several chapters of SHRM as well as NJSA on the topic of background checks. Fred has a BA in Psychology and a BA in Criminal Justice from Moravian College.
Kathy LaBruna/Client Relations Manager
Kathy currently serves as the Client Relations Manager and oversees several Client Support teams as well as processing departments in the company. Kathy’s start in the company originated in the credit industry from which she was recruited to lead the support teams for DataScreening. Kathy’s knowledge of the background check industry has led her to take on a more active role as a processing manager where she handles detailed aspects of the background check process, helping clients as well as internal staff. Kathy is a member of PBSA; Professional Background Screening Association as well as SHRM; Society of Human Resource Management.
